Electronic Fingerprints for Canadian background Checks.

Criminal record checks are provided through use of your name and date of birth or by submission your fingerprints. If a certified record check is required or if the name and date of birth inquiry matches an individual in the CPIC system submission of fingerprints to the National database becomes mandatory.

Criminal record checks, also referred to as police clearances, criminal background checks, criminal checks, police checks, police certificates or CPIC checks, are processed through the Canadian Police Information Center (CPIC) database. Results can be provided as early as the same day.

Legal Name Change

People change their legal name for various reasons, for instance to align with their identity, mark life transitions, or for practical, safety, and social reasons. Common motivations include marriage, divorce, aligning with gender identity, shedding negative family associations, adopting a chosen name, or simplifying a name that is difficult to pronounce or spell.

International Fingerprinting

If an individual is in one country and requires their background check for the time they resided in another country, ink-and-roll fingerprints is often required because digital systems may not be interconnected between states.

If you are currently in another country and require your Canadian criminal background check, please email info@OTSServices.ca for us to send you an out of country package. The package incudes very detailed step by step instructions on how to proceed from start to beginning. The package will also include a FD258 template for your fingerprints to be taken on, and a biometric form for you to fill out with your personal information, such as legal name, date of birth, reason for request.

After reviewing the package, you will need to get your fingerprints taken at your nearest police station or fingerprinting agency. Please ensure you get the name of the official taking your fingerprints, their badge or identification number and the location in which the fingerprints were taken.

Next, put together your ink fingerprints, the biometric information form, a passport size photo, and a photocopy of two (2) valid pieces of identification, and have it couriered to OTS Services.

When we receive your package, we will draft your application, digitize your fingerprints and submit and electronic submission to the RCMP.

The RCMP will mail you a copy of your results of your RCMP certified criminal background check.

For a faster turnaround, it is an option to have your results from the RCMP certified criminal background check are mailed directly to OTS Services, as opposed to yourself. Then we will have the results couriered directly to you by Express post, granting you to receive them faster, and to have document tracking.

(*Please note that some transaction types require direct shipping to the client, in that case the courier option is not available.)

Types of Criminal Record Checks

OTS Services offers a variety of criminal record checks. A Criminal Background Check may be used for a variety of reasons, including, but not limited to:

FINGERPRINT FACTS

Fingerprints are formed in the womb during fetal development, starting as early as the 10th week of gestation. They are the result of a complex interplay between your genetics and the chaotic physical environment inside the uterus.

History and Identification Purposes

Fingerprints have been used for identification for over 100 years, they were first used by ancient civilizations like Babylon and China to authenticate documents.

Criminal record checks, also referred to as police clearances, are conducted through use of your name and date of birth or by submission your fingerprints.  Using fingerprints confirms the identity of the individual requesting the record check.

The submission is  processed through the Canadian Police Information Center (CPIC) database, by using LiveScan digital fingerprinting technology which allows us to submit fingerprints electronically to the RCMP and get a response in as few as Three (3) (if there is no match to a criminal record). Results are mailed to the address provided by the applicant (extra time for Canada Post should be permitted).

What to bring to your appointment:

Two valid pieces of Government issued identification except for Health Cards, or Sin Cards, as those are not permitted forms of identification.

Only original IDs are accepted.

If you receive any request letter/ email/ instructions from the organization that required your fingerprints/background check, please provide them along the IDs.

Please click here to see the list of Acceptable Identifications. (PLEASE ADD LINK TO ACCEPTABLE ID PAGE)

No two fingerprints are exactly the same. That’s what makes them so useful for law enforcement  and smartphones to positively identify people.

No two people share the same fingerprints, not even identical twins, yet they share the same DNA.

Fingerprint Pattern Types

Fingerprints are categorized into three main patterns:

    • Loops (60%): The most common type.
    • Whorls (35%): Circular or spiral shapes.
    • Arches (5%): Rare, wave-like shapes.

Yes, it is possible for an individual to be born without  fingerprints, it is a rare condition known as adermatoglyphia.

Record Suspensions – Formally known as a Pardon

A Canadian Record Suspension (formerly known as a pardon) seals your criminal record, keeping the convictions “separate and apart” from a criminal record search in the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) database.

Record Suspensions – Formally known as a Pardon

A Canadian Record Suspension (formerly known as a pardon) seals your criminal record, keeping the convictions “separate and apart” from a criminal record search in the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) database. It doesn't erase the conviction, but it does “hide it”, thereby meaning your record will come back clean on standard background checks. A Record Suspension can assist with employment, housing, volunteer opportunities, or to remove any stigmatization that one may feel with a criminal record. In effect, a record suspension is a formal way to demonstrate you've rehabilitated and reintegrated into society, allowing you to move forward in life and put your past behind you.
